Another boomer leaves the job market - Clinton mail carrier Marie Edwards retires

Marie Edwards is one of 10,000 boomers who retire each day.

Last Thursday was a banner day for mail carrier Marie Edwards. It was her last day as a Clinton mail carrier. With her retirement, Marie joins 9,999 other baby boomers who retired that day, according to AARP.

Marie has been a constant in the lives of locals for her career. She carried the mail in inclement weather. She was profiled by this site in January 2012 in The Good: People and Tradition at Their Best.

During her career going door to door delivering the mail, she suffered three dog bites, a well known danger for mail carriers.

She was philosophical about the dog danger at her retirement party. "It happens. It's not the big dogs that see you every day. It's the small ones that escape from their house and are afraid of everything that you have to watch out for."

Edwards has no firm plans for how she will spend her retirement. She has grandchildren near and far. They will get a significant share of her time.

She might garden. "I heard it relaxes you"
