MADD Art Camp begins June 20th

(Clinton, KY) - Middle school students will be participating in music, art, dance and drama classes this summer in a free program cosponsored by the Hickman County Arts Council, the Hickman County Extension Service and FLIGHT, the summer and afterschool program of Hickman County Schools.

FLIGHT students will be bused to Hickman County High School for each day's program that runs from 8:30 - 2:00 Monday, June 20 to Thursday June 23rd. Breakfast and lunch will be provided each day. Friday, students will share what they've learned with their families and friends at a luncheon.

MADD Camp began modestly in 2015 with fifteen students. This year, between 25-30 students are expected to participate. The increase is due in large part to the participation of FLIGHT this year. That program was previously booked with another summer program last year.

This year, teachers will include Shelly Lickliter teaching music. Shelly has experience putting on community sing events and enjoys working with young people. This is her first year with MADD Camp.

Cletus Murphy, a retired music teacher returns as dance instructor this year. His one-two-three, one-two-three line dances promise to get students feet moving.

Students will get their own sketching materials in the art program this year. Teachers Sheri Roberts and Liz Jewell are looking forward to helping students begin drawing and seeing their own visions.

On Thursday, Lisa Cope of Playhouse in the Park of Murray is bringing drama students to help students find their inner actors and actresses. Playhouse in the Park has an award winning children's theater program.

A new feature this year is the addition of high school student assistants to the program.
