(Clinton KY) - Members of the Mayfield/Graves County Historical Society took a field trip to Hickman County today, visiting the Hickman County Historical Society and the Hickman County Museum. The historians, several of whom had Hickman roots, perused marriage and school records. 
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Simmons brought their deceased son's Army uniform and donated it to the Historical Society. Donald and Charlette Simmons live in Melber Kentucky. Their son, Ricky, died in 2010. Ricky Simmons served in Europe for three years beginning in 1975. After his death, his parents looked for a home for his uniform, finding one in Clinton.
Michigan resident Penny Pollock, shown at left, spent her time looking at maps and records of Columbus. Pollock said she visited Graves County in 2010 and was so impressed and welcomed by the members of the Graves Historical Society, she decided to make the Kentucky county her home.
After a luncheon supplied by the Hickman County group, a tour of the Hickman County Museum, across the street from the Historical Society,was taken. The Graves Countians pronounced themselves "entranced" with the collection in the Museum.
Several plan to return to Clinton for more historical research. A field trip whetted their appetites for more genealogical and historical research in the stacks.
The Hickman County Historical Society has a busy July planned. On Saturday, the Jackson Purchase Historical Society will meet in Clinton then travel to Columbus Belmont Park. Later in the month, leaders of the Cherokee Nation will visit Clinton commemorating the Benge contigent of the Trail of Tears that went through Clinton.
