Civil War Days at Columbus Belmont begin Friday Oct. 7 | Hickman County Kentucky, Civil War, Columbus Belmont Park, history

Columbus Belmont Park at the far western end of Kentucky will once again echo to cannon and bugle blasts as the annual recreation of a battle fought across the Mississippi between the forces of U. S. Grant and General Leonidas Polk.

Beginning Friday evening, October 7, 2016, with a sunset cannon salute over the Mississippi, the three day event will conclude with a final skirmish between Union and Confederate forces. Battles will be fought on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

The events include a ball, morning worship service, and a first time visit from Kentucky's Historymobile.

Food vendors will be on hand with traditional treats - fried pies and West Kentucky barbecue. Sutlers will offer costumes, jewelry and other traditional necessaries for the period.

It's a trip back in time for the whole family on fall break. The Civil War Museum on the grounds of the Park will be open throughout the weekend.
