Getting started (officially) Samantha Verkuilen, Allison Verkuilen, Carolyn Byassee and Brittany Caksackkar ribbon cutting

(Fulton, KY) - Fancy Fannie's Bakery at 422 Lake Street in Fulton is named for matriarch Carolyn Byassee's grandmother. Grandmother Fannie was a baker in East St. Louis years ago. Carolyn told her granddaughters that Fannie had to be part of their new bakery. Their first thought was "Feisty Fannie's Bakery." Feisty became fancy for the elaborate offerings of the new venture.

Working the new business are Samantha Verkuilen, Allison Verkuilen, Carolyn Byassee and baker Brittany Caksackkar.

The bakery offers an assortment of goodies - snowmen made from cupcakes, wedding cakes, party snacks, and pies. Fridays through Sundays are for donuts - plain, chocolate and glazed. They also do apple fritters and sausage, egg and cheese biscuits.

The bakery offers a simple lunch of soup and sandwiches Tuesdays through Fridays. The soups vary according to what the cook has in mind. Recent offerings have included potato soup and burger in a bowl.

The newest shop in a revitalized downtown Fulton opened on October 10th. The ribbon cutting sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce happened a month later. The City of Fulton's downtown was revitalized by a program of painting and repairing downtown buildings. Since the renovation, a boutique and the bakery have opened on Lake Street.
