Hickman County elementary, middle and high school students turned shopping bags into works of art for the second annual brown bag art contest.
Their decorated bags were displayed anonymously in the elementary school cafeteria during the Hickman County Arts, Crafts & Book Fair on November 19th. Shoppers enjoyed a luncheon sponsored by the Hickman County Arts Council were encouraged to cast a vote for their favorite bags.
Student winners received money awards from the Council.
Elementary winners were:
First, Kyra Johnson and Kyleigh Woodard (pictured)
Second, Lily Wilmath
Third, Je'Nyia Martin
HCHS winners from that public viewing vote:
1st place: Jasmine Myatt
2nd place: Kayla Rollins
3rd place, tie: Tori-Lynn Browning and Jalisha Hunter
This 12th annual Fair is sponsored by the Friends of Hickman County Arts to support the Hickman County Arts Council, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. Local artists, authors and craftspeople offer their wares to the public in the Hickman County Elementary Gymnasium from 8:30 - 2:00. Over 45 vendors take part in the event that is advertised throughout the Purchase.
The Hickman County Arts Council uses the funds donated by the Friends for student art activities like the brown bag contest, MADD Camp, a week long summer program for middle schoolers offering classes in music, art, drama and dance. Other activities include writing and poetry events, young leaders and support for local tourism and history programs.
