Wingo students show off their FNB donated eclipse glasses

Schools in the Purchase are all over the map - ha - in their approach to Monday August 21st. Answering the question whether to have school or to have an "out of school instruction day depends on the system.

Ballard, Calloway Carlisle, Fulton, Hickman County Schools, Fulton, Murray Independent and Paducah City Schools are open that day. Ballard County Superintendent emailed "We will have instructional activities that include the historical and scientific context of the eclipse. Our students will be viewing the event with parent permission."

Hickman County Superintendent Casey Henderson said his schools are doing what Ballard is doing.

Mayfield Independent, Graves, McCracken, Trigg and Livingston County Schools will not be in session. Instead they are taking non-traditional school days.

Paul Schaumburg reports that "The Graves County School District has designated Monday, Aug. 21, as a district-wide Non-Traditional Instruction Day, due to the impending solar eclipse. Therefore, students in grades K-12 throughout the Graves County Schools will complete assignments their teachers provide them in advance for this occasion. Most students, many with parental assistance, will complete their assignments via technology, including the internet and e-mail. Students without ready access to such technology may complete their assignments through packets they will receive in advance.

Teachers will be available to interact with students and parents throughout the regular school day hours. They will clarify assignments, answer questions, and provide feedback to students and parents concerning those assignments."

FNB Bank donated 500 pairs of glasses to Wingo students.
