PADUCAH, KY (Feb. 18, 2021)- - Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 1 Snow-Fighters are taking on round 3 of an extended snow and ice event. Many of the region's counties received 2 to 3 inches of snow overnight.

Cold temperatures have again helped crews by providing a powdery snow that is ideal for plowing. The District 1 Snow and Ice Team anticipates crews will get some help from rising temperatures. The trend toward daytime temperatures up in the 20's has prompted crews to resume spreading salt to help clear roads more quickly as temperatures rise above freezing going into the weekend.

By mid-morning, most area 4-lane "A" Snow Priority Routes had one-lane cleared and pavement was visible in the passing lane. Some had both lanes cleared District 1 snow plows will be turning their attention to "B" and "C" Snow Priority Routes through the afternoon with the hope of completing all routes by the end of the day Friday.

Highway crews will be ending their13-hour shift rotation at midnight tonight, with crews returning in full force on Friday morning to finish up snow-clearing activities for this event.

KYTC District 1 is responsible for about 2,850 miles of highway in Kentucky's 12 westernmost counties. Plowing all of those miles is the equivalent of driving from Washington, DC, to San Francisco, CA. Plows will make multiple runs along District 1 highways in a single snow and ice event.
