Beaver Dam Cafe - Sign of the Times?

CORRECTION: Beaver Dam Cafe Not Closed by UEI

We reported on November 26th, Beaver Dam Cafe was closed because it didn't make unemployment insurance payments. We picked up the story from the local paper. We have since learned that our information was not correct. Ky Unemployment Insurance did not close the Cafe - the Kentucky Revenue Cabinet closed the restaurant.

Our apologies to the folks at Unemployment Insurance. It's guilty we are of not doing our homework.

Here's the original story:

The Ohio County Times-News,
www.octimesnews.com reported recently that little Beaver Dam lost two long standing businesses. The office of the Beaver Dam Deposit Bank on Main Street closed. Then the Commonwealth of Kentucky padlocked the Beaver Dam Cafe for unemployment insurance payments.  The lien filed against the Cafe was for almost $22,000. The Department for Unemployment Insurance directed the Sheriff to close the business on October 29th.

The question is: Now that the state has closed the business, what happens to the people who worked there?

Oh, wait. They can collect unemployment insurance because now they have no jobs.

Makes sense. Or not.
