Rep. Graham Donates $10K to Student Trip

He may not look like Santa Claus, but Rep. Derrick Graham played the Jolly Old Elf, giving $10,000 of his re-election money to the school to help students get to Washington for Barack Obama’s Inauguration on January 20th. The trip is now a tradition. The Frankfort State Journal reported on Dec. 10th.

In the interest of full disclosure: When I was on the Frankfort Independent Board back in ’92, the first inaugural trip was proposed by then Superintendent Mike Oder. We approved for the whole school for Clinton’s first Inauguration. Back then, I thought it was wonderful for young people to be a part of such a historic event. Kentuckians are traditionally the least traveled citizens of the US. Trips like this one may be a teen's only chance to visit our nation's capital.
