Dems Close to Bulletproof Majority

Yowsa.

MSNBC.com is reporting that Senator Arlen Specter is talking with Democrats about switching from GOP to Dem. If that happens and Al Franken is confirmed in the race in Minnesota, the Dems will have a filibuster proof 60 vote majority.

Here's some questions to ponder for you Kentucky political junkies:

If the Dems in the Senate get a filibuster proof majority, what will that do to Sen. Bunning's fund raising efforts? Will the GOP galvanize behind him to help him keep his seat?  Or, will they toss him off the row boat and get a younger, more biddable candidate?

Won't Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell become even less powerful in Washington? And what will that do to his power base at home?

A filibuster proof majority will mean universal health care comes closer to reality.

Just when we thought there were no surprises.
