Bunning Not Running?

Bunning Not Running? | Bunning, Grayson, US Senate, Northern Kentucky, baseball, Mitch McConnell

Is the former Philly and Tiger pitcher leaving the mound to a younger player?

Politico.com says that Senator Bunning is stepping aside to let Trey Grayson run for his seat. Grayson announced yesterday evening he is forming an exploratory committee to prepare to run for the US Senate.

Grayson, a native of Kenton County in Northern Kentucky, is a protégée of Bunning, who also hails from that area. He had said repeatedly he would not run against the senator.

Bunning is seen as the most vulnerable of US senators. RealClearPolitics.com published a poll taken by Public Polling on April 2nd and 3rd showed Democrats beating Bunning in every permutation.

When measured against Grayson, Democrat Attorney General Jack Conway led by 4 points (37-33) among all likely voters. Lt. Governor Dan Mongiardo trailed Grayson by 4 points (40-36) among all likely voters.

Grayson will find the checkbooks open on the GOP side if he decides to run. A loss in the Senate Minority Leader's home state will be a bitter pill for Sen. McConnell to swallow.
