KET - Microphone Dysfunction at Monday Debate
Yes, Virginia. There was a sound problem at KET Monday night. It was caused by a naughty microphone that only misbehaved during the challenger's portion of the program.  And yes, there is a Santa Claus..

Parks Department Plays Favorites
My Last Word on this Subject: Yesterday I got a press release from Cindy Lynch, Park Manager of Columbus Belmont Park. The release from the Department of Parks dated October 3rd was about Columbus Belmont Civil War Days.  I went back through my emailed press releases and we had not received the press release Cindy snail mailed us.  So, I owe the Parks an apology. But what I still want to know is why no word from anyone in Frankfort - and yes, the PTBs saw my temper tantrum. I really don't mind being told I'm wrong - but I do hate getting it by snail mail days after the event is over.
Editor’s Note: Some days I think we are being ignored by Frankfort here in far western Kentucky. Other days I KNOW we’re being ignored.
When a press release came from the Parks Department advertising Perryville Battlefield's Civil War Days, ignoring Columbus Belmont Civil War Days the same weekend, my blood pressure spiked!  Stretcher, anyone?

There's Bias and There's Bias
For those of you who think our complaints about the news coverage offered by the Paxton Family Empire is unfounded paranoia, here’s a couple of reminders that even paranoid people get it right sometimes.

...The Paducah Sun published NOTHING of the substance of the Ryan KET appearance or of the Whitfield statement afterwards.  Not on Tuesday. Not on Wednesday. Not on Thursday.

... This week Ryan Alessi at the Lexington Herald picked the 1st Kentucky House race of incumbent Steven Rudy against challenger Mike Lawrence as one of the top ten races to watch in the state. Lawrence, McCracken Circuit Court Clerk, raised $63,032 and had $56,837. Republican Rudy raised $39,925 with $36,617 on hand. That’s very close to a 2:1 fundraising advantage for Lawrence. The Paducah Sun completely ignored the story.

Civil War Days - Y'all Come- Even You Tourism Types

Since the Kentucky Department of Parks has not responded to our request for an email advertising OUR Columbus-Belmont State Park Civil War Days this weekend as they sent out to advertise Perryville's Civil War Days, ("45 minutes from Lexington")  we are doing it ourselves.

ALL EVENTS ARE FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
(There may be a small charge to tour the Museum)

Win for Whitfield is a Loss for Public Access
I am sitting here on a Tuesday afternoon feeling that something’s been irretrievably lost. The decision to allow Rep. Whitfield to substitute an infomercial for honest debate is a blow to all of us. Be assured if a leftwing dictator or Vladimir Putin sent a prepared statement to a debate, Rep. Whitfield would be thundering about an assault on democracy.

KDP HQ Fundraises on KET Debate Debacle
The Kentucky Democratic Party sent an email out last evening urging contact with KET and a donation to KDP for the "long fight ahead".

I  talked to Ryan this morning and confirmed that she has received NOT  ONE DIME from the KDP. So, isn't it just a tad bit hypocritical to be raising money based on the KET situation since that money will not go to the candidate's campaign?

Iraq - the Wrong Mission
...Now Bush, Cheney, John McCain and his supporters say we cannot leave Iraq until we have victory.  Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but our army defeated Iraq's army in short order, and with the help of the weapons inspectors, determined that while there were hundreds of tons of conventional weapons, there were no WMD anywhere.  None.  Then Iraq's government went into hiding and not long after that Saddam himself was captured.  For several weeks after Iraq's army quit and went to their homes there was little or no armed resistance.  That looked like victory to me compared to any other war in history.

KET Response on Whitfield's "Prepared Statement"
As it has in each Kentucky Congressional race this year, and in past years, KET invited both candidates in the First Congressional District to appear in a live forum. The Ryan campaign accepted KET's invitation, and the Whitfield campaign declined....

KET Intimidated by Ed Whitfield
Tonight was supposed to be the one and only debate between 1st Congressional Rep. Ed Whitfield and his challenger, Heather Ryan.  Ed Whitfield won't be at the debate by his own choice. He cancelled last week, no excuse given.

Heather Ryan has been informed that the Whitfield campaign has sent a pretaped video to be played after the half hour forum.  KET says that Whitfield's campaign told them that the Fairness Doctrine and Federal Election Commission rules demand they run the video without rebuttal.

Fair to who?

Hubbard Takes Fight for Senate Seat to Opponent
...Hubbard said that four years ago, the GOP sent out mailers accusing Dennis Null(Winters’ opponent) of terrible things that weren’t true. Null didn’t answer them and he lost. He warned that his opponent and the Kentucky Republican Party will try to do the same thing to him. He vowed to respond "in kind".

Ballard Democratic Pig Roast. Yum
We went to the Ballard County Democratic Pig Roast Saturday evening. We will venture to say this guy was the star of the show.

There were some special guests too. We took their pictures and listened to their speeches with happy tummies.
