EPA involvement in strip mine permits - two perspectives

Kentucky Energy and Environment Secretary Len Peters sent out a statement that accuses the Environmental Protection Administration of overstepping its bounds by objecting to permits issued to strip mines.

Attorney and longtime environmentalist Tom Fitzgerald read Peters' statement. ...."EPA's final guidance provides important clarification of the agency's expectation that state's issuing discharge permits will no longer ignore the impacts of dissolved sulfates, carbonates and chlorides on the health of headwater streams..."

TAKING MUSIC TO NEW HEIGHTS – Three Graves County High School Band students were selected to perform with the Kentucky Lion's Club All-State Band this summer. The 2011 Lion's Club International Convention Parade of Nations was held in July in Seattle, Wash.
