Music lovers mark your calendars! The Fifth Annual Old Hymn Sing will make a joyful noise on Friday September 6^th in the Clinton First United Methodist Church sanctuary. Doors open at 6:15 and the singing starts at 7:00.

Rivals Governor Matt Bevin and Attorney General Andy Beshear didn't deliver knock out blows at the 2019 Fancy Farm Political Speaking. They did present vastly contrasting styles.

In short, one candidate is unhappy. The other is not.

(Fancy Farm 2019) - Rep. Richard Heath, (R-House 2- Graves and part of McCracken) wasted an opportunity on August 3rd. Instead of extolling the virtue of Graves County, the place he claims as his forever home, Heath launched into a grossly unamusing attack on candidates on the other side of the platform.

It was embarrassing. There is much good that Heath has been part of and witness to in Graves County. No one could tell it from his three minute speech.

(Fancy Farm Picnic August 3, 2019) 120 Strong got their front row seats again this year at the 2019 Fancy Farm Picnic...

While 120 members in the distinctive black t-shirts sat on the Democratic side of the Picnic Pavilion, several we talked to are registered Republicans. Governor Bevin attracted their wrath with comments about teachers that included calling them unconscious drowning victims who need to be dragged to shore.

Republicans and Democrats have breakfasts, dinner and special events scheduled from Thursday to Saturday.

Antique Tractor Show This Weekend Aug. 2-3

It's almost time for the 2019 Antique Tractor Show Aug. 2 and 3 on the grounds at Discovery Park of America in Union City (straight south from Mayfield on I-69 aka the Purchase Parkway). See over 100 of the coolest and oldest tractors from Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, Missouri and Kentucky. It will be a great day to spend with your family.

There will be food vendors available, cooling stations and a great venue to explore as well.

The way to love your neighbor is show mercy, to clean and bind up the wounds of the one beaten by robbers. But when was the last time you saw someone beaten up on the side of the road? Are there other ways to love a neighbor?

Is our climate, the climate here in Hickman County, changing? Perhaps this is a question we can get our heads around. "Climate change" and "global warming" are ideas too big for my imagination. There is no way I can experience "global warming." Because, well, it is global.

But I can experience a higher average temperature HERE. My imagination can understand more extreme weather in this little world right around Fulton and Hickman Counties...

(Clinton, KY) First District Representative James Comer is back in the Purchase for the premier political event in the Commonwealth's calendar - the Fancy Farm Picnic. While he's in the area, Comer is making the rounds of the counties on the farthest end of his district.

His focus remains on agriculture and rural issues.

Two women not generally known to be community activists have worked for over a year to bring a dream of a large mural from imagination to completion.

Senator Paul would rather go to a 3rd world country than come to Fancy Farm this year.

Party loyalists are already booking hotel rooms and setting up super secret squirrel meetings for the first week of August in the Purchase. Lots of partisan events to attend that week - plus the Lakes and the Discovery Park of America and the American Quilt Museum in Paducah and...and...and...BARBECUE!!

The course correction is producing benefits and attention from state and federal politicians and policy makers. Inviting company down to Columbus Belmont State Park on Thursday, July 18, 2019 was a day for WAVE to show off...

What stood out in the speeches was the newest crop being hailed as the saving grace for farmers beset by too much rain, too many tariffs and too full grain bins. Keynote speaker Matt Lohr, USDA Chief of Natural Resources Conservation Service (NCRS) hailed the West Kentucky farmers and their "spirit of innovation". He said that Kentucky is the epicenter of hemp production.

Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue toured the UK hemp research facility this week. Perdue was accompanied by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Kentucky Secretary of Agriculture Ryan Quarles...

Perdue most likely was glad to get out of the Capital City to the friendlier climes of Kentucky. The Secretary has been in the news in recent days for a controversial decision to move out of the DC area two research arms of his agency.

Last week President Trump made a vow to the American people. As he signed into law by Presidential executive orders new EPA rules, he made this statement, "My administration is putting an end to the war on coal."

The war isn't going well as two more mining companies shut down.

MURRAY, Ky. -- A Murray State biology professor has named a new insect species after her daughter, who helped make the discovery while planting flowers in western Kentucky.

Dr. Laura Sullivan-Beckers teaches zoology, ornithology and human anatomy classes to undergraduate students at Murray State. She's also mom to 5-year-old Sylvie. During the summer of 2016, when Sylvie was two years old, the toddler uncovered a brand new insect species...

Hickman County will celebrate Heritage Days from Tuesday September 3 to Saturday September 7th. The county, state, nation and world of 1919 will be the focus this year. A loosely organized series of events will celebrate the end of the War to End All Wars, the passage of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote among other events.

Artist Elizabeth Jewell created the collage poster "1919" currently on display in the lobby of the Clinton post office. The collage depicts the major events of the year: marching soldiers, WW I African American infantrymen and suffragettes in their white dresses and protest signs.

...Farms and related industries rely on seasonal, temporary labor, which they obtain through the H-2A and H-2B temporary worker visa programs. The problem is, these programs are antiquated and in desperate need of modernization. They are rife with unnecessary red tape and bureaucratic obstacles that prevent the Kentucky agriculture community from hiring and retaining the workers they need...

6/27/19 UPDATE: Lt. Governor Hampton will not be at the August 3rd Fancy Farm Picnic political speaking. Governor Bevin's running mate, Ralph Alvaredo will be. Bevin told reporters the kerfluffle with Hampton was all media hype.

Kentucky Lieutenant Governor Jenean M. Hampton sent a press release outing Governor Matt Bevin's chief of staff Blake Brickman as the man who fired her chief of staff, Adrienne Southworth, a Lawrenceburg resident.

To say that the first floor is failing "plays well with others" would be an understatement.

Dorothy Nell Harper passed from this world to the next at her home on Harper Road yesterday. In her 102 years of life, she touched many of us with her wit, her charm and her kindness. She was a wife, a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and toward the end of her life, a great-great grandmother..

Of all those roles, for me, she was a poet. Her poetry was a simple and straightforward as the life she lived..

ICYMI - PSC removes a barrier to electric cars win a victory for electric vehicle charging stations

FRANKFORT, Ky. (June 14, 2019) - The Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) ruled today that electric vehicle (EV) charging stations are not utilities and therefore should not be subject to regulation.

In a flash of civilizational time, Clinton went from a thriving county seat of the 19^th century to a more complex and thriving city of the early 20^th century.

Whole sets of job skills and needs disappeared overnight to be replaced with new job skills and work.

This same model of work disruption is now underway with regard to the needs and opportunities of a new 21^st Century.

There will be jobs- we have a list.

At the top of their party's tickets in November will be Matt Bevin, the current Republican governor versus Andy Beshear, the Democratic attorney general.

Native son, Graves County High Class of '02 valedictorian Matthew Madding, will lead the Graves County School District as superintendent, beginning July 1. The Graves County Board of Education voted to hire him in a special, called meeting Wednesday afternoon, May 15.

Now a week out from the 2019 primary election in Kentucky for governor and other constitutional officers, all the candidates are in the final phase of their fighting for voters.

Reaching the predicted 15% that will turn out to vote is of primary importance.
