Murray State Students Part of Space Teams

Four Murray State university students have been selected to participate in a space satellite operations and technology project. A program of joint private, educational, and government interest have established KentuckySat. It is a student led initiative involving the design, building, launch, and in-orbit operation of small satellites. The KySat Projects train students in the dynamics of spacecraft design, construction, testing, and operations. One goal of KySat is to further Kentucky’s development in science and technology education. KySat recently announced the names of the students who will comprise the Mission Design Team and Mission Support Team for KySat2, a small satellite that will launch in 2009. After an intense competitive review process, the following students were selected to serve on the satellite design team: Keith Bux, a senior engineering physics major from Belleville, Ill. and a Clark College member. Amber-Rose White, a senior engineering physics major from Buchannon, Tenn., and a Springer Franklin College member. Additionally, two students were selected to participate on the Mission Support Team that provides support to the design team across multiple missions and activities. These students are: Patrick Adams, a junior engineering physics major from Hollow Rock, Tenn. and a Hart College member, and Jonathan Frederick, a junior engineering physics major from Farmington, Ky. and a Richmond College member. These students will be able to look forward to a new career opportunity that will unfold within the next five years as over 50 American and International high tech companies race to be the first private space operation to put a rocket and lunar package on the Moon. A new era of privatization of space exploration is just now starting and these young MSU students will be a part of it.
