Hickman Co. Elementary Students celebrate I Love to Read Week
Dawson Naranjo's Johnny Appleseed box is ready for valentines

Hickman County Elementary students celebrate “I Love to Read Week” beginning on Monday, St. Valentine’s Day and continuing throughout the school week.

Librarian Tammy Taylor has planned activities ranging from a St. Valentine’s Day Box decorating contest to a Book Bowl – an academic team style trivia contest based on literature, a book swap and a parade of students and teachers dressed in character.

The cafeteria will offer special literature based lunches during I Love to Read Week. “Stone Soup” will be on the menu.

Students in K-3 brought in fanciful and creative St. Valentine’s Day boxes based on story characters.  The winning entries are shown at right.

The week will culminate in a reading challenge. If students can read 2000 books, Principal Johnson will do something silly – like a chicken dance or kissing a pig.
