WHO THINKS LRC DIRECTOR BOBBY SHERMAN IS WORTH $16,000 A MONTH?

Yesterday, when the news of Bobby Sherman’s phenomenal pay increase came out, we didn’t get the names from PolWatchers on who voted for Mr. Sherman’s hitting the wage earner’s jackpot. This morning, the Lexington Herald Leader website, Kentucky.com, published a list of the votes.

We are having a hard time getting our heads around a $700 billion dollar bailout of the financial sector. We are not having a hard time getting our head around paying one director whose agency has between 500 employees (according to the Herald) or 1000 employees (according the other sources) almost twice what the governor of Kentucky makes.

This is the agency that has grown like Topsy over the years, forcing executive agencies to relocate for legislators who spend less than a quarter of the year at the Capitol. Legislators have to be in Frankfort from January to mid April in even numbered years, January to March in odd numbered years, for committee meetings during the interim and for short special sessions. At one time, legislators had workstations (think “The Office”) and shared large open rooms. Now they have office suites on the third floor of the Capitol Annex that is limited to staff and invited guests.

UPDATE: Representative Jeff Hoover will be campaigning for Republican Steve Rudy at a fundraiser in Ballard County this evening.
